The piece itself is Ink and Digital, along with digital compositions of the actual piece on the proposed buildings! Since illustration is often just a single artist working on their own it was a pretty great experience to work with Yao on this project.
And if I say so myself I think it's one of my favorite pieces yet!
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjugv-mndb7W2iRY4bi5IyxqQ-CatSKo1rKhKEl0HeAt6zk33DzoQR0iyrYaUFbegqXvNjwIF2KTmLSBJ6spd3Ys_CdmUmCeExno172T7fwFSRlxygn9JjHxrOn2h0x46PYkxVcyIzny1s/s320/rigden_02.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5587483698715661570" />Maria Rigdenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16044272106416237207noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8502881859715968552.post-73610659435965214212011-03-23T20:23:00.000-07:002011-03-23T20:29:09.899-07:00Erotica! The first one is supposed to represent the mad narrators reassurances that "he loved the old man" but decides to kill him all because of his eye. The second piece is the narrator actually forcing his way into the mans room as he is scared awake to kill him. And finally, the third piece, the blood spattered narrator is confessing to his crimes and beating his floor as the beating of the man's heart pounds in his ears.
Really liked working on these pieces, all are done with a shiny (not so shiny any more) new water color set and india ink brush work on water color paper, and each is about 10x16? Anyhow it was to make a 45 cover for a song using the front and back to illustrate what happens in the song, and I just had to go for Reptilia by the Strokes- a song pretty much about a guy and girl and the guy wants the girl to to be as out of control and exciting as him, and if she can't keep up then she's just holding him back. A fantastically upbeat song about spiraling out of control for the hell of it.Maria Rigdenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16044272106416237207noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8502881859715968552.post-91150622485430623692009-11-06T16:20:00.000-08:002009-11-06T16:41:21.569-08:00They may as well have...<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg80KXEyTWL5X4S4NYfoYDNXJiVzTKnLxpBQ9FVcsOd-fc8L9JwWdJE5bn6yh0eFugjPqQYwlWNDyw7aE9yK4Ayin0qlNg3fM5lZHvSoQoQJ2-E6SJaz8rDGRgONxkcl7LtKvPl1rr00t4/s320/IMG_3424.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5401150387273514066" />
So here is the editorial piece I did for narrative, it was pretty much on the fact that the military hasn't cleaned up the mustard gas they have stored next to a small town in Colorado and about its not very secure and the people are afraid of leaks. So if you can't figure out my opinion on the whole situation then I really don't know what to tell you, I mean, its the military spraying mustard gas on a quaint mountain town, it's hard to get more opinionated than that! This would be some images from last year. I figured these kinda covered all my basics, there's oil paints, collage, pastel/charcoal, plaster, spoons (yes spoons.), a little here, a little there. Anyhow, thought this would give an overview of where I was before I get to where I'm going.
The big face with pink sunglasses is a 4x5 oil painting that was done ala` Alex Katz, not my style but i did manage to do it in a grand total of 5 hours (something a speed painter like him could maybe appreciate?). Next the plaster body is just that, a plaster casting that I did of myself to represent a girl falling a part (made of plaster and rope, cast from me by me and then filled in with plaster). Then the green circle is charcoal and pencil, based on the myth the Mad Man's Whisp (that the men who ate this plant were said to go mad). And the spoons! Its hundreds of spoons glued together to emphasize the impact of space (the only place you can reach through is the center circle). Finally the paper collage of my (now dead) bamboo plant.

Caught up enough?
Maria Rigdenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16044272106416237207noreply@blogger.com0
