The Tell Tale Heart

So for narratives last deadly assignment we had to do three ready-to-print illustrations for Edgar Allen Poe's The Tell Tale Heart. The first one is supposed to represent the mad narrators reassurances that "he loved the old man" but decides to kill him all because of his eye. The second piece is the narrator actually forcing his way into the mans room as he is scared awake to kill him. And finally, the third piece, the blood spattered narrator is confessing to his crimes and beating his floor as the beating of the man's heart pounds in his ears.
Really liked working on these pieces, all are done with a shiny (not so shiny any more) new water color set and india ink brush work on water color paper, and each is about 10x16? Or close to that size anyhow.

Reptilia

"I said please don't slow me down
If I'm going too fast
You're in a strange part of our town...

Yeah, the night's not over
You're not trying hard enough,
Our lives are changing lanes
You ran me off the road,
The wait is over
I'm now taking over,
You're no longer laughing
I'm not drowning fast enough."
Another narrative project, this wasn't the final front and back that I turned in, but I did like these more. Anyhow it was to make a 45 cover for a song using the front and back to illustrate what happens in the song, and I just had to go for Reptilia by the Strokes- a song pretty much about a guy and girl and the guy wants the girl to to be as out of control and exciting as him, and if she can't keep up then she's just holding him back. A fantastically upbeat song about spiraling out of control for the hell of it.

They may as well have...

So here is the editorial piece I did for narrative, it was pretty much on the fact that the military hasn't cleaned up the mustard gas they have stored next to a small town in Colorado and about its not very secure and the people are afraid of leaks. So if you can't figure out my opinion on the whole situation then I really don't know what to tell you, I mean, its the military spraying mustard gas on a quaint mountain town, it's hard to get more opinionated than that! By the by it is a ink and water color piece about 12 x 18.

Oh Yoko!

So we were told to illustrate a famous duo, anyone at all, and really now, what couple has ever gotten as awkwardly and publicly close as John Lennon and Yoko Ono? No one has. So here they are in all their stylized glory. This was all sumi ink and brush work, 18x24.

naked people

So here are the results of figure drawing, and I have to say, I'm pretty proud of it. The largest is 18x24 but the rest (and by rest I mean the 3 mostly finished ones are about 8x10?) and all have been done in black ball point pen.

Frustration

So this is the current life drawing project, due tomorrow, and its headless. Yep head less
now im going to go solve this problem by either drawing a head, or turn my 3 week self portrait into a headless chicken, complete with spurting ink spatter out of a severed neck. But at least you can see the process.
sumi ink, white acrylic and gesso, almost lifesize? ish? maybe?

Catch up!

So let's play catch up! This would be some images from last year. I figured these kinda covered all my basics, there's oil paints, collage, pastel/charcoal, plaster, spoons (yes spoons.), a little here, a little there. Anyhow, thought this would give an overview of where I was before I get to where I'm going.
The big face with pink sunglasses is a 4x5 oil painting that was done ala` Alex Katz, not my style but i did manage to do it in a grand total of 5 hours (something a speed painter like him could maybe appreciate?).  Next the plaster body is just that, a plaster casting that I did of myself to represent a girl falling a part (made of plaster and rope, cast from me by me and then filled in with plaster). Then the green circle is charcoal and pencil, based on the myth the Mad Man's Whisp (that the men who ate this plant were said to go mad). And the spoons! Its hundreds of spoons glued together to emphasize the impact of space (the only place you can reach through is the center circle). Finally the paper collage of my (now dead) bamboo plant.
Caught up enough?
